Working in the maritime industry in Norway often means operating at the intersection of advanced engineering, global operations, and long-term responsibility. For many professionals, the most attractive workplaces are those that combine hands-on technical experience with international exposure and a stable, competence-driven environment. At TeamTec, this combination defines everyday working life.
Starting a Career in Service Engineering
Olav Valsvik joined the company as a Service Engineer for incinerators, drawn by the opportunity to work hands-on with equipment in operation and to experience a varied workday that extended far beyond the office. Travelling to vessels, solving real operational challenges, and working closely with customers provided deep insight into how TeamTec’s systems perform in real conditions.
Over time, that operational experience became a foundation for broader responsibility. As Olav’s product knowledge and market understanding grew, his role evolved from service into sales. Today, he works at the intersection of customer dialogue, technical expertise, and market development – bringing practical experience directly into commercial decision-making.
On any given morning, his workday may begin with emails from Asia – long before many colleagues arrive at the office in Tvedestrand. Shipowners, shipyards, and partners across time zones rely on quick responses, solid technical understanding, and practical solutions adapted to real operating conditions. This global perspective has been a defining part of Olav’s career at TeamTec from the very beginning.
“No two days are the same,” he says. “Some days are spent in discussions with sales and engineering on ongoing projects. Other weeks, I’m travelling and meeting customers face to face. That variation is a big part of what makes the job engaging.”
Gaining International Experience in the Global Maritime Industry
One of the most defining chapters of Olav’s career was a four-year assignment in Singapore, where he helped establish a local service satellite to support increasing activity in Asia. The role demanded independence, cultural understanding, and close cooperation with customers in a fast-paced market.
“It was a unique experience–professionally and personally,” he says. “Living and working abroad gave me a much deeper understanding of how different markets operate, and how expectations can vary across regions.”
That international exposure remains central to his work today. Understanding cultural differences, regulatory environments, and operational priorities helps ensure that TeamTec’s solutions are not only technically sound but also aligned with customer realities.
Workplace Culture and Knowledge Sharing at TeamTec
Despite our global footprint, TeamTec retains a strong internal culture. Olav describes the working environment as professional, open, and collaborative – defined by strong competence and a shared willingness to help each other succeed.
“There is a lot of experience here,” he says. “People are generous with their knowledge, and the atmosphere is positive. That combination is important.”
What makes him particularly proud is representing a company that, while based in a small Norwegian town, is recognized worldwide for quality and reliability.
“People all over the world know TeamTec. They trust our products, and they respect the work we do.”
In his current sales role, Olav meets customers with clear expectations of performance, reliability, and long-term support. Their feedback feeds directly back into product development – ensuring TeamTec continues to improve and stay ahead in a competitive market.
